The same group as that shown in picture #565, again in the harbour area. Again, the date is a guess.

I think the girl on the left of the photo is Reay Ross, Pretoria House, Shore Road and daughter of Alistair. Not sure of others.

Not sure but isn't the boy Reay and Margaret's brother, Alan Ross? I should know 'cos I was in school with him but the photo doesn't show his features well.

Having looked at the other identical group photo, I think Jackie is right. The group would be from left Reay Ross, unknown girl, Margaret Ross (Reay's sister) and probably Alan. It looks like it was taken at what we called the 'sandy beach', which is right outside the present Port Authority building, opposite Pretoria House.

Have just noticed the date posted for the photo. Not quite correct - I estimate it to be around 1962. I was born in December 1953 and look around 8 or 9 in the photo. I had thought my dad had taken those photos as we have a number of similar ones including one of us playing in Angelo's garage, which folks may remember was at the bottom of Ross Lane.

(Margaret, thank you for providing so much info and the date has been altered as suggested - Site Administrator)

Yes Graeme you are right about Reay, Margaret & Alan Ross and about the location - we had lots of fun on that beach. The other girl is Ann MacLennan, who used to live above the Calley. She was in Reay's class in school. She has a sister Yvonne, a brother Sandy and a younger sister Lillian who are all still in the area. Anne teaches in the Fort William area.

The location is on the beach in front of where the CFPA building now stands.

Is this the beach between the middle pier and the dockyard pier?
Added by Douglas Will on 15 January 2006
Yes it is Douglas! The RNLI crewroom now stands on pillars on the beach immediately to the left of this photo.
