Invergordon Football Team

Invergordon Football Team, flanked by Mort Jamieson on the left, and by Jockie Calder on the right. Date would be a guess, at the late 1950s.

Looks like they've won the Ross-shire Junior Cup as shown in picture #1316 - wonder where those trophies are now?
Anonymous comment added on 29 October 2010
This does not look like a junior team - Davie Moir and Jimmy Farquhar would have both been a fair age when this was played.

Who is on the left of the front row?
Added by Joe MacDonald on 01 November 2010
I think that the left of the front row may be Willie MacKay and the others in the front row, left to right, are Ross MacLeod, Jimmy Farquahar, Johnny Allan and Justin Calder.

Others I think are as follows: back row, left to right, beside Mort, George (Pico) Sutherland, next to Pico maybe Hamish Urquhart but not sure of that one, then I think Billy (Aggie Biff) Sutherland, Goalkeeper I think James (Ditchburn) Ross, Davie Moir, not sure about the last player but I think either Jackie Campbell or a MacPherson?

Anyone confirm or correct my guesses ?
Added by Graham MacKenzie on 01 November 2010
Graham, I'd say you're about right....try Billy Lamb for next to Pico and yes for Jackie Campbell..all others have to my mind been named correctly.
Added by Duncan Murray on 02 November 2010
Thanks Duncan - Billy Lamb was a name I had forgotten about. I thought it looked like Hamish but couldn't remember Hamish playing football. These guys were very much older than me but when I was a wee boy they were like "footballing Gods".

Does anyone know if Jockie Calder and Justin Calder are related?
Anonymous comment added on 04 November 2010
Yes they are related, I believe Jockie to be an uncle or cousin of Justin ..but not a brother as far as I can recall.

It could be Billy Lamb (my dad) as it looks very like him, but I hardly recognise him with hair!! If I see him around, I'll certainly ask him.

Graham, Duncan, Jillian and, of course, Gordon...... Correct all round, because I think that it is Billy Lamb, not Hamish Urquhart.
Added by Rosalie Graham (Samaroo) on 11 November 2010
Thanks Rosalie. I don't have many photos of him so it's nice to see.

I enjoyed looking at this photo and recognised Ditchburn, Davy and Jimmy.

Hi Duncan Murray, Jocky Calder and Justin are brothers. Jocky is my dad and Justin my uncle.
Added by Avril Hunter (Calder) on 22 November 2015
Hi Avril, Jocky and Justin were good friends of mine between 1946 and 1951.

I called in to see Ditchburn in August this year during my visit to Invergordon. Football was the main conversation! Happy days at Invergordon!

I think the date is close. Davey Moir and Jimmy Farquhar were veteran players of the Invergordon football team, both dedicated players.

Hi Nigel, thanks for the lovely comment. I remember sitting for hours listening to my dad talking about the good old days in Invergordon. He always loved football...

Hi Avril, the thing I remember about your Dad and Mort is standing for hours at the top of King Street talking about everything and everybody. This was a new experience for me as this was not done in my home town of Weymouth.
Added by Nigel Borthwick on 27 November 2015
That sounds so like my dad and Mort as they knew everyone in Invergordon. You couldn't do that now.
