Experimental tunnel at Nigg

A photo of the experimental tunnel constructed by CFP and mentioned in one of the comments on picture #981.

Interesting, Alan, what would be the purpose of this experimental tunnel? - and why was it abandoned?
Added by Harry O'Neill on 18 March 2007
Harry, the aim of the project was to create oil storage caverns built into Nigg Hill but it never got beyond this initial tunnelling exercise. Not entitrely sure why it didn't proceed, cost, geology, alternative storage opportunities perhaps.

Alan, do you happen to know the extent of this particular tunnel? I am aware that there are others at Nigg but this one has always been a mystery to me.
