Invergordon Academy Class 7 - March 1959

I hope some ex-Invergordon pupils can recognise and provide names. I will add some names later.

Would the teacher be Mr Clark (the jake) who was the headmaster when I attended school? It looks like him and he seems to have a smile of sorts.....

Harry. Is it likely that the Jake ever smiled? It could well be him in this picture as there is that distinct "General de Gaulle" look. He must be near the end of his career at this point as he looked old to me in 1957 when I left.

Looks like him Harry. That must have been his last year as I remember having Mr. Milton for a couple of years before I left. That looks like Murdo Macleanan in the center of the back row.

I'm not sure if this photograph is 'Pr 7, March 1959'? I started at Invergordon Academy in February 1959 and was put into Pr 7 (see picture #938) The Headmaster (or Rector, as he was known) then was Mr Milton.

This was indeed the Jake in his last year. I think we had his daughter as teacher in Primary 5 when she was newly qualified.
Heather, are you sure it wasn't Feb 1960 when you came? I think this was the qually class of 1958-59, and we were next in 1959-60.
As for the names, I recognise plenty...Lennox, Mackay, Budgie, Woody, Manson etc, but I think it would be better left to somebody like the little smiler in the middle of the front row (Lucille) or the boy with the glasses left front row (Brian)to provide the definitive list. Both have previously contributed knowledgeably to this site.

Rod - you may well be right. Time can 'play tricks' with the memory as we all know only too well!

Bill, guess that is what threw me off - no, he didn't smile, only grimaced. I always said "thank-you" after he belted my hands and forearms to numbing mush...

I think this is the nearest I have ever seen of The Jake smiling. Harry, I used to thank him too after either a good telling off or the belt. WHY ??????

Hi Rosalie, don't know about you, but I said "thank you" just to let him know who was in charge Ha....

Hi everybody - especially Roddy and Brian - we have just found this magical site - from Brisbane Australia - regards to everyone - Douglas Lennox - 2nd from left top row.

I suspect the Jake is smiling because it´s his last year. Why was he called that anyway? I could remember the nickname but not his real name.
Hi Doug, why aren't you in the photo of 1A also on this site?

See picture #67 - his name was James Clark. Could have called him Jimmy I guess, but he was known as The Jake for reasons unknown to me.

The rector was James A. Clark. I would think the nickname came from the initials.
