The Shivas Family

This picture was given to my Aunt by her daughter in law, who believes the Shivas family lived at Blackpark House before the Mackenzie Family. Can anyone tell us more?

(The date of the picture is unknown - Site Admin.)
Picture added on 07 January 2007
The Shivas family did live there, the adults in the picture above are my grandparents, and the baby being held in her mother's arms is my mother, the late Margaret Zawinski, nee Shivas.

This is a photo of James Sangster Shivas and Aimee Celeste Shivas (nee Duruz) taken early 1900s. Does anyone know the children's names? I have 2 of them: James Alexander Brooks Shivas Born 1908 and Margaret Isobel Shivas Born 1922. James is my 2nd cousin twice removed. Many thanks. Karen (nee Shivas)

Charles, Bertram (Beam ) and Andrew, if you look at the Seaforth Highlanders photos you will see Uncle Andrew and Uncle John, Uncle John emigrated to Canada.

The adults in this photo are my grandparents and they had 8 children: four girls Aimee in the middle, who is now 96 years of age (I think!) and still lives in Invergordon, my mother, Mina Hermance Campbell (nee Shivas), at the front, Margaret Zawinski on the right and Joy on the left. My mother, Margaret, and Joy died some years ago. The boy at the back, I think, is possibly Beam, with Charlie on the left and John at the front, all of whom are also now dead. I can only assume that at that stage Andy had not been born but I am not certain. Margaret's husband still lives in Invergordon but has now remarried. Vanda and Mari, 2 of his daughters, also still live in Invergordon whilst young Joe lives near Edinburgh I believe. John's wife lives in Canada.

Hi Jim, I remember Mum and Dad taking us to visit you when you stayed in Hull. How are you doing?
Added by Caroline MacLeod (nee Zawinski) on 25 May 2007
Hi All. Jim, I have to correct you as you have the names of the children mixed up. Caroline was right, the baby in the mother’s arms is our mum Margaret Shivas. At the back right is Beam with Charlie on the left. John is the boy at the front and Andy is the boy on the father’s knee. Aimee is the girl in the middle and Mina at the very front. Joey was not born yet, she was the youngest of the family.
Margaret’s children: myself, Maree and Erenia all live in Invergordon; Joe is in the Borders. Caroline is near Edinburgh and Maggie is in Aviemore.

Thanks Vanda, I was sure I was right, Mum was such a cutie.

Apologies Caroline and Vanda. You were much closer to the family than I was and I am sure you are right. I had forgotten that Joey was the youngest and was thrown a little by Andy's clothing!! Trust you are both keeping well.

Hi Jim, we are all well thanks. Do you know the date of this picture? I have a picture of your mum which I will send in and also one of the Shivas children when they are older.

Sorry Vanda I do not know but I would guess that it must be about right. Your Mum looks to be about 12/18 months old. How old would she be now? I think my Mum was born about 1914 and in the photo she looks about 5/6 years old. When my Mum died Charles took all the photos with a view to sending copies to us. Unfortunately this has not happened and I believe they were all subsequently destroyed sadly.

Happy to say that I knew Andy, but knew Charlie better, he was an excise clerk in Invergordon Distillery - worked with him and had a dram with him on a few occasions. He used to tell me he gathered herbs to make his tobacco go further, he mixed it all up ….he was a great man.

I’ve just found out that my grandmother is Mina Campbell, how exciting to see pictures dating back so long, I also am the niece of Jim Sangster Shivas.
