This is where we used to sledge whenever it snowed or froze enough. The aim was to start at the top of the school brae and make as close to or onto the High Street. I wonder how many remember these happy days.....

Eddie, I seem to recall a large house that faced the brae. It had a name over the door, can't remember the name - would this have been your house? and what was it named?
PS, it wasnt me that ran into your door, I never could make it over to the other side on my sledge, after trying for hours on end.....

I remember that many times someone would overshoot the road, and bang into our front door at number 32 which was directly opposite the School Brae.

Hello Harry. The large house opposite the brae was in fact the one where I grew up. There were a couple of front doors, one of which led to a small office used by a solicitor who came from Tain every Thursday. I can't remember if he had a sign up or not, it's a long time ago. Most people managed to stop their sledge before the main road, but sometimes when they had not salted the road, it became part of the run. I remember watching a few near misses with cars. Althjough back then the High Street was a lot quieter.

Can remember sledging down what we called School Brae. On one occassion, I remember the girl McKintosh getting her nose broken when her sledge hit the wall opposite the tennis court gate. Her father had the shop opposite the school, selling papers and sweets and ciggies.
