Thanks to whoever submitted this picture of my P7 class, I haven't seen it before. It's amazing how short the boys were in those days! How things have changed!
Added by Margaret Macleod on 08 April 2005
I hadn't seen this photo either and an unusual grouping, boys at the front! I must have been standing on a bench I think in the back row. I recognise Robert Mackay, Reggie Dunnett, Graham Burgess, David Rutter and Ross Urquhart in the front row and Martin Mackenzie and Charles Mchardy are some of the clearer faces.

Perhaps some sort of class outing, as the location does not appear to be around the school.

Is the boy standing to the left of Robert Mackay, Brian Hermitage? The girl third from the left is Margaret Gordon, and the girl on her left I remember, but unfortunately not her name. The boy who is standing directly behind them, I think, is Hugh MacLennan (aka Shug).

Yes Derick, it is Brian Hermitage. I guess his sister Pat will be in the picture but I can't place her. The girl to Margaret Gordon's left is Yvonne Maclennan and to her left is Valerie Armstrong. The rest of the front row Liz has named apart from the girl on Margaret's left. Next to Hugh is James McGibbon and behind him is Margaret Westphall, Patricia Gunn, Anne Davidson, Elizabeth Askew, Susan Fraser, Margaret Ross, unknown, unknown, Joseph Zawenzki and Stanley Keith.
Could it be Hamish Bremner that is half obscured behind Martin Mackenzie?

Woh! That was definitely a blast from the past! It’s funny how you forget all those names and faces until they are put in front of you and it all comes flooding back! I am presuming that the Margaret that sent the e-mail is Allan`s aka Punky`s sister - great to hear from you! It’s funny and strange how the memory works as we get older. When I think that I am now a grandfather of six and getting old and wondering where I left my glasses I can still remember so clearly the people who we went to school with. Obviously, the ones we hung about with are easy, but the others are not even though the names are so familiar. I remember Shug because not only was he one of the cleverest boys in the school, but surprisingly, one of the toughest; sorry to hear about his passing away. Other school mates I remember well, some of which I see every now and then, some of which I haven’t seen or heard of in nearly 40 years are Cameron Gordon, who though he doesn’t know it, had a big impact on my future. Marianne Macleod (my first love), Alistair Kennedy, Murray Wallace, David Rutter - I can’t remember too much about Yvonne Maclennan because I never got to know her that well, except she had a lovely friendly smile! Anyway, it would be good to hear from any of my old schoolmates, either on this website or personally. Be good and take care!

The chap standing next to my brother, Joe Zawinski, is called Graham Burgess. Joe, Graham and Charles were great pals for years.
Added by Caroline MacLeod, nee Zawinski on 08 December 2007
Can`t, for love nor money, pick out Joe Zawinski in this photo no matter how long I look at it. What I did find though is a photo of Joe`s dad, picture #82, and couldn`t believe how identical a father and son could be.

Joe is at the front, 2nd from the right. Are you the D Gripton who played the drums?
Added by Caroline MacLeod, nee Zawinski on 10 December 2007
Sorry Caroline, but the boy 2nd from the right is definitely David Rutter although I can see the resemblance between him and Joe. By the way, this is Derick Gripton, it is my brother David who used to, and still does, play the drums. Where is Joe now? I haven’t seen or heard of him in years?
Added by Df Gripton on 11 December 2007
You have presumed correctly Derick. Good to hear from you. Just to settle the debate re Joe, he is in the back row second from the right - his face is partly obscured by Charles McHardy's ample head of hair. Alistair Kennedy was from Alness so wouldn't be in this primary school picture. The picture was taken by the old headmaster's house which is next to the present Park School entrance.

Joe is staying down near Dunbar now, he is married with 4 kids, well not so young!!! He comes up to Invergordon to visit Dad, who is still living in Clyde Street, and the rest of the family.
Added by Caroline MacLeod, nee Zawinski on 19 December 2007
And I might add I'm pleased that's not Joe as I was going to tease him about eating too many pies!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Added by Caroline MacLeod, nee Zawinski on 20 December 2007
I think the boy behind Martin Mackenzie could have been Donald Macleod. Donald and his sister Sandra who sadly passed away about ten years ago came down from Newmore school in primary 5 or 6.

Yes, I am sticking out of Charlie McHardy's head! It wasn't often I got into the back row; I think I must have been really good that day. What a brilliant photo, thanks for the memories.
Added by Joe Zawinski on 02 November 2008
Wow, a photo with me in it! One to pass on to the little ones, I think.
It is good to see so many of the faces that I recognise, most of which lived in Gordon Terrace.
Robert Mackay, Margaret Westphal and Yvonne MacLennan. Then Joe Zawinski, Margaret Ross and Valerie Armstrong, so many memories. Please do get in touch.

The third girl on the left is my cousin Margaret, who I haven't seen since 1965; she had a younger sister called Joan.
Added by Leslie Fraser on 04 July 2013
Margaret & Joan both live in Alness with their families.

Added by Liz Taylor nee Askew on 07 July 2013
Thank you, I have been trying to trace them for a very long time. If anyone else who knows them, I would be grateful if they knew that their cousin from York is trying to get in touch with them.
