The Leisure Centre (pre-swimming pool extension) and the Isobel Rhind Centre may help date this picture?

I would say its more likely to be 1987 or possibly slightly later. I remember recovering "a Hercules Piling 30RB" from the bottom left hand area that got itself drowned with the rising tide when the "bund" eroded. This looks completed in the picture and I know it was later than 1985.

The Isobel Rhind center was built in the 1990s. I was in the academy when it was being built.

This picture clearly shows how small a town Invergordon was prior to the new housing estates. The old town extended from Shore Rd. up to the church manse and no further..
