Dockyard and West Harbour

The view across the Royal Navy Dockyard with the West Harbour in the foreground. In the Firth is a 'Nelson' class battleship (no doubt an expert will identify the precise ship - either HMS Nelson or HMS Rodney).
The date of the picture is not known but judging by the vintage of the parked cars it is likely to be before the Second World War.

I would suggest this photograph was taken from an upstairs window in Ness Cottage, since demolished. It looks over Shore Road, beyond the garden fence towards the Centre Pier. The buildings on the West Pier can be seen above the slated roof in the foreground.

I think you are spot on Ronald. The area where the cars are parked was all fenced off in our day.

I can remember when the area where cars are parked was covered in large heaps of wood planks, etc, were stored; no doubt they would have been for use in the construction of Inchindown. The piles covered the whole area from the railway lines almost to the shoreline.

Definitely from Ness Cottage - that's our garden! Nice picture.

Where cars are parked they used to fly barrage balloons.

Aye, it must be, my Dad Lachie II must've taken it from the Andrews' house.
