Pipe Major is Hugh Urquhart...stayed in the Joss Street prefabs opposite the now Joss Street Garage..was a bus driver with the Highland Bus company. Also it looks like Adam Taylor standing in front of his showroom window.

Duncan, you are right! Pipe Major is Hugh Urquhart, so the year of this picture is definitely not 1900, more like late 1940's or early 50's.

Hi Duncan, it's John Urquhart here. I have spoken to my mother and she says it is my father who is the pipe major, Alec Urquhart.
On the front row on the left is Davie MacKenzie, who lived in Golf View Terrace. Second row on the right with the side drum is Johnnie Lennox.

Yes Rosalie, your uncle was a drummer. If you go to picture #694 you will see him standing beside my father and Johnnie Lennox.

Hi Rosalie, the photograph you mentioned is picture #694. It was taken at the prefabs in Golf View Terrace outside your uncle's house. I lived three doors away from him. Our immediate neighbours were Noreen Gunn's mother and father; next door to them were Douglas Lennox's mother and father (Johnnie Lennox also in picture #694) and then your uncle's family. I remember them all so well!!

Hi John, unless there is another David Mackenzie, my uncle David Mackenzie who lived in Golf View Terrace was a drummer. In another photo (can't remember the number) David is standing beside Johnny Lennox.

Thanks John for the confirmation.....I however don't think it's Davie Mackenzie that is the front row Piper....I knew Davie (and Hazel his wife) very well as they were great friends with my parents..must admit that there is a likeness but the Davie I knew was a Drummer.
