Comments:
Did they rebuild the bridge as this bridge crossed the main line (railway) to stations further north?

We had no fear as kids, some of us used to run along the top of the walls on our way to the art class which was in the old infant's school.

Douglas, was the railway signal box located at this bridge or the one by the school brae?
Added by Harry O'Neill on 01 June 2011
Harry the signal box was by the bridge under the school brae on opposite side to the station. When you went into it you only touched the levers wearing gloves or an piece of cloth otherwise the sweat on your hands rusted the polished handles.

Thanks Douglas, remember well the levers. Old Jimmy Mackay used to send me to that signal box, always with a piece of paper with the levers marked to make sure I pulled the correct ones. Some pulled easy, some didn't.

I don't suppose anyone can remember the derailment by this bridge? - it was before I started working on the railways.
