The new Balcas Biomas Plant

This is the new £24m Balcas Biomas Plant nearing completion on the Cromarty Firth Industrial Park. The plant will produce 100,000 tonnes of brites, the Balcas branded wood pellet, which will be enough to heat 20,000 homes each year. The plant, which will use sawdust and other wood fibre, will be entirely self sufficient in electricity and will provide a further 5 Megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
The two storage tanks on the right are familiar landmarks as they were part of the aluminium smelter plant. They are being recommissioned and will be used for pellet storage in the new plant.
