Liz, did your parents ever stay in one of the houses next to the Viewfirth? Was your Mam a nurse? If she was, I think she may have worked with my Mam at the old County Hospital. I only ever knew her as Mrs Askew, but I'm sure her husband was Hamish. I remember visiting one time with Mam and laughing so much my face was sore (can't rememember at what though!!).

I remember Mr Askew very well, always a very pleasant man. I remember him being in the dockyard, but vaguely on the Pilot boat. My grandfather retired from the Pilot boat around 1957, he also received a long service medal and it was given at the officers club next to the church manse. Great set of pictures by the way.

Hi Harry, Pop as we called him would have been on after your grandfather as I was born in 1953 and remember being on the boat when I was around nine. The crew at the time were, if I remember correctly, Pengelly, Paddy Scourfield, Davie Ross and Alistair Maclellan. He had an accident and I think retired early. Glad you liked the pics.

Hi Jillian, my dad Hamish stayed in Bella Vista, the house with the flat roof along from the Viewfirth, with my stepmother Pat (Jessie) who worked in the County Hospital for many years and who stayed in the house after he died in 1989 until her own death in 1992.
