Tim Ross's Retirement

The location is unknown and the date unknown but as the people are Post Office staff I think this is Tim Ross's retirement due to ill health.
Back row left to right: Cameron Maclennan, Mary ?, Hamish Askew, Isobel -Ann Aburrow, Willie Macdonald.
Front row: Margaret Fox, ? , Tim Ross, Betty Ross.

(The date is pure guesswork - Site Admin.)

I am fairly certain that Mary? is Mary Shepherdson.

Liz, thanks for the photo. I've never actually seen it before. It's even more poignant now, because I'm the last Ross left, as Mum, Sandra and Margaret have all passed away.

Liz, on reflection, the year was 1963. I remember the date on the clock.

(Many thanks, the date has been amended as appropriate - Site Admin.)

Hello Peter, I remember your Dad very well. He always made sure the Post Office was spick and span. I can see that brightly polished brass post box right now! Sorry to hear about Margaret, she was in my class in school and we played together a lot. I used to be very envious of the fridge in your Joss Street prefab as I thought it meant you would have unlimited ice cream!

Bill, I still remember the prefab well, with old NAAFI behind it, even though we moved to the High Street when I was about seven. Margaret left for University from there and I never saw her gain until I was 9 years of age, when she got married. Fortunately we were reacquainted when I joined the RAF and my first posting in Bedfordshire was close to where she lived. She was always the heart and soul of the party even to the end. I and my family lived close to Margaret for the last 13 years. So she was always available for babysitting when my bairns were small and also to take part in any parties going! She passed away peacefully in her sleep.

I think that the lady Mary? is Mary Macdonald and that her Triumph Herald is sitting outside the Post Office in the 1965 picture (picture #828).

I think the man next to Margaret Fox, on the front row is James Ritchie, who was the Head Postmaster in Dingwall. He and John Burgess interviewed me in July 1970, for the job as postman.

Hi Billy, my Mam, Isobel-Ann Aburrow was post office cleaner for more years than I care to remember and took great pride in keeping brasswork glowing.

I think both Ronald and Anonymous may both be right about Mary ?. She was MacDonald and married an Australian (Shepherdson)- the father of Leone who married Brian Coward from Alness.
