My Father had the Electic shop on the High street firstly in the little shop next to Mackenzie Bros butchers, (before Mr Appel) then across the street in the bigger shop between the pub and the chemist Ogilvies I think. His brother Alex, (Naxie) had the grocery and drapery shop on the corner of High Street and Bank Street. Any one remember Katie Maclean who worked for years in the drapery shop? Think this photo may have been taken in Arbroath.

Two shopkeepers of this parish! From a time when Invergordon had a full range of shops from Charlie Wilson's at the bottom of the street to Fowler's at the top and shops all down King Street selling everything you could ever want to a population a quarter of what it is now but it all seemed to work out OK.
Couldn't place the photo loaction till you mentioned it Margaret, but I think you are right with Arbroath. Of course I remember Katie Maclean, thick glasses like the bottom of beer bottles and as a kid I drove her up the wall but I was very fond of her. After the shop closed she worked in MAC'S cafe for a while I think she was the sister of Matta Maclean who lived down the bottom of Strachan's Lane and aunt of Jennifer who appears in some school photos on this site.

Hi Margaret, think you are right about it being taken in Arbroath - the phone box didn't look like Invergordon, as they were up on the High St. I knew I recognised Alex, but the name threw me off, but when you mentioned Naxi then it was instant recognition. I remember the shop your father had and yes it was Ogilvie the chemist. Katie I don't recall though....

Joe Zawinski Junior worked for Charlie Wilson delivering messages for him after school. He had a bicycle with a basket on the front for going round doing the deliveries.
