Saltburn School: date ? Ocassion?

(The date is a pure guess, but note the flags/bunting on the school building - Site Admin.)

Wonder if the gent in the centre was Provost George. The boy 4th from left looks a bit like Donald Stevenson and boy 6th from left could be my brother Gordon Mackenzie.

With the bunting on the building and the way the children are facing, towards the road, I wonder are they waiting for Royalty or such like to drive past?

Hi Margaret, I also think the gent in the middle of the picture is Provost George, I recognise the goatee beard. It's such a shame that a lot of us have photos with no idea who the people are.

It certainly is Provost George. Also in the picture is the minister of the Invergordon Church of Scotland wearing a black coat. The man with the walking stick may well be the oldest man in the village of Saltburn and presents were being exchanged. The flags on the school are to celebrate the Coronation in 1953. A tree was planted in front of the school for this occasion - now removed.
