Jimmy Borthwick (my uncle) might be the very athletic looking man at the top of the diving board to the far right of this photo. He was a keen swimmer in the old outdoor pool in Invergordon where he won the Littlejohn of Invercarron Lifesaving Trophy in 1951 (and also his home town of Weymouth where he was once Dorset County Diving Champion). He lived in Invergordon from 1946-1951 and went on to become a physical training instructor with the Royal Air Force and part of his work, whilst stationed at RAF Changi, was flying out to the steaming jungles of Borneo to search for crews of crashed planes. On his return to the UK in 1964 he volunteered for a parachute jumping course but tragically the aircraft involved crashed killing all on board.

Liz, that certainly looks like Jimmy. He and his brother Nigel (Richard) used to play the piano in my Granny's house in Clyde Street. Very sad to hear about Jimmy though. It seems that from previous comments, Nigel is still a good footballer!

I remember Jimmy diving off the first pier mouth - must have been about 1949. There was a small crowd watching.

Ian, to see your name on here is definitely a blast from the past. I have commented on your father in previous entries. Jimmy was certainly an excellent diver and people loved to watch him.

My mother is the one at the bottom of the slide. She will be 91 this month. I think she is the last survivor of her class at school. Alice Macleod was her friend who sadly died recently.
